On the occasion of the Iberian Warriors Festival in Zaragoza last week (live report here), I had the opportunity and the honor to ask some questions to Heri Joensen from Tyr and also to take stock on the forthcoming album among other things.

When folk-metal exploded into heavy music culture at the start of the 2000’s, the Faeroese band Týr found themselves wrapped up in this classification. The problem is that it’s technically correct. Folk music from Faeroes is completely vocal, so Týr’s original concept was to combine these songs with classic metal music. With this in mind the band created five albums of lush, progressive hard rock and metal, harmonized in multiple languages.

As the travel season arrived and that the Faroe Islands were on my route map, I thought it would be funny to have a “wee” chat with Týr (a.k.a the most famous Faroese metal band and one of my favourite groups) while I would be there. Being the lovely guys they are, they agreed to spend some time chatting to me.
